What to do
A practical checklist
State the boundary in plain language rather than hiding it inside hints.
Avoid mixed signals you do not mean just to keep the conversation alive.
Respect another person’s boundary without bargaining, testing or repeatedly asking.
Use block/report tools when someone repeatedly ignores a clear limit.
End the conversation when pressure, threats or disrespect become a pattern.
Why this matters
People cannot reliably respect a boundary they are expected to guess. Clear language reduces negotiation and makes the next decision easier. Respect also runs both ways: the same standard applies when the other person communicates a limit to you.
What to do next
Short is often better: “I’m not comfortable with that.” “I don’t want to share my address yet.” “I’m going to head home.” A boundary does not become more valid because it has a long explanation.
